Your first biotope, in five minutes

Everything below happens on your phone at biosensei.app. Steps 1–4 are the whole starter experience; steps 5–7 are for when you're ready to go further. The app speaks English, français and 中文 — switch anytime from the top of any screen.

Open the app — no install needed

Visit biosensei.app in any browser. You can explore immediately in demo mode: a sample aquarium is waiting, and everything you try stays on your device. When you're ready to keep your data across devices, create a free account — your ecosystems then live safely in the cloud, visible only to you.

Tip for the kitchen counter: add biosensei.app to your phone's home screen and it behaves like an app — full screen, one tap away.

Create your ecosystem

Tap New Ecosystem. A short wizard walks you through seven screens:

  • Type — pick from fifteen habitats: aquarium, terrarium (arid, tropical, temperate, snake, amphibian), paludarium, ponds, aquaponics, plant & soil beds and more.
  • Details — give it a name and an approximate volume.
  • Sensors — tick the things you can measure. The list adapts to your habitat: a terrarium offers basking and cool-zone temperatures, never salinity.
  • Inhabitants — pick your species from 150+ fish, reptiles, amphibians, inverts, corals and plants. This helps the Vet give better advice later.
  • Zones — name the areas you monitor: Main Tank, Warm Zone, Humid Hide, Pot 1…
  • Data — choose Manual logging to start (you can switch to sensor-fed Hybrid anytime), and optionally connect a Google Sheet.
  • HDS Bundle — if your biotope came with an Ajinomatrix solar kit, select it here.

Log your first measurement

Open your ecosystem and tap Logger. Choose a zone, enter the values you have — from a test strip, a thermometer, or just your eyes — and add a note if something is worth remembering (“fed 3 crickets”, “shed complete”, “water slightly cloudy”).

  • You don't need to fill every field: log what you measured, skip the rest.
  • A reading of 0 is real data — 0 ppm ammonia is exactly what you want to see recorded.
  • Every entry appears instantly in the history below, newest first, with its zone and origin.

Ask Dr BioSensei

Tap Diagnose. Dr BioSensei reads your recent history — manual entries and live sensor data together — and returns a state (stable, warning, critical), the key drivers, and plain-language next actions.

What makes it different: an evidence-confidence engine. One extreme reading from an uncalibrated probe, while your fish feed normally? Dr BioSensei flags a suspected measurement anomaly and asks you to verify — it will never tell you to dump chemicals into a thriving tank on the strength of a single doubtful number.

Something looks sick? The Vet tab gives species-specific health consultations — describe the symptoms, optionally attach a photo, and get severity, urgency and a care protocol.

Go live with sensors (optional)

Ready for automation? Switch your ecosystem to Hybrid in Configure and bind one or more Zigbee probes — a water probe in the tank, a basking-zone and a substrate probe in the terrarium. A small bridge at home forwards their readings securely to your account every ten minutes.

  • The Current sensor state card shows each metric's latest value, 6-hour average and range at a glance.
  • Freshness is honest: live, recent, stale or offline — a probe that went quiet is never dressed up as current truth.
  • Manual logging keeps working alongside: sensors watch the water, you record the life.

Sensor kits and setup guidance come with the HDS solar kits, or write to us and we'll help you wire up your own.

Mirror to Google Sheets (optional)

Like your data in a spreadsheet too? Enable the Google Sheets output in Configure, paste your sheet's link, and every entry — manual and sensor alike — is appended automatically. If Google is unreachable, nothing is lost: the row waits, visibly, and a Push to Sheets button retries it. BioSensei always remains the authoritative record.

Make it a habit

Small worlds reward small rituals. Log when you feed, diagnose once a week, glance at the sensor card with your morning coffee. The more history Dr BioSensei can read, the earlier it spots the slow drifts that matter — long before they become emergencies.
